Letter to Santa: How to write a request that will make the whole family laugh! A fun letter to Santa

09.12.2024

Christmas and Saint Nicholas Day are coming. Such occasions remind us to believe in little festive surprises. Many people write letters to Santa. Such a letter, apart from asking for some dream gifts, may include stories about recent experiences, various secrets and anecdotes from the year. It can also be humorous in nature. Wondering how to write a letter to Santa that will not only bring your dream gifts, but also entertain the whole family? Check out our advice.

Saint Nicholas Day – when and why do we write letters?

Saint Nicholas Day is celebrated on 6 December and reminds us of Saint Nicholas – the good-natured bishop who gave presents. This is the perfect time to reflect on your dreams and desires and write a letter to the Saint. The tradition of writing letters to Santa is great fun for both children and adults. How about making it more creative? Instead of the classic “Santa, please bring me a new doll” request, try to create something that will make people smile.

How to write a funny letter to Santa?

Start with a creative greeting. Ask Santa, in a creative way, how he is doing. Instead of the traditional “Dear Santa, I hope you are well”, write something fun, such as:

  • “Ho, ho, ho! Dearest Saint of Presents and Dumplings, how is your sleigh doing?”.
  • “Ho, ho, ho! Best provider of Dream Gifts! How’s your magic lodge? I hope your elves aren’t playing too many pranks on you or stealing your cookies. I am currently baking something special for your visit!”.
  • “Dear Santa, Master of the Reindeer Sled! Has your sledge undergone its winter testing yet? And does Rudolf still have the reddest nose around? I am writing in the hope that you’ll have time to read my letter before taking off on your grand trip!”.
  • “The Most Christmassy Bearded Saint in the World! I hope the elves have more coffee for you than usual this year – after all, handling billions of letters is a very busy job. Maybe you could even find a moment to read my (somewhat long, but I promise, interesting) letter?”.
  • "Hey, Santa, Conqueror of Christmas Boredom! Is everything OK at the North Pole, or are you experiencing a shortage of snow? If so, I can lend you some of the white stuff from my yard – I have all too much of it. But let’s get to the point, because my wish list deserves your special attention!”.

You can also refer to the image of Santa Claus:

  • “Hey, Santa! Is it true that your beard is a magic antenna for receiving letters?”.
  • “Santa, do you wash your red clothes in any special liquid? The colour never fades. I would love to wash my clothes in it”.

Make fun of your ‘achievements’ this year. Instead of trying to convince Santa how good you were, describe your ‘achievements’ in a humorous way:

  • “I’ve been so good this year that the fish in my aquarium have started serving me breakfast themselves. OK, I may be exaggerating, but I really do deserve a present!”.
  • This year I have really given it my all. An example? I never once overslept for school... OK, just once, but that doesn’t count since we were doing fractions in class! I helped around the house – I even washed the dishes, although it turned out the dishwasher did it faster and better”.

Original gift requests for Saint Nicholas Day: Don’t just write about the usual gifts. Add something unique, such as:

  • “I would like some magic socks that always find one another”.
  • “Please get me a ticket for a flight to the North Pole – I want to see you give the reindeer a day off!”.
  • “Could you send me an extra portion of your magical snow? I need for a snowball fight with my neighbour!”.
  • “Can I get a new Maths teacher? One that doesn’t do tests and lets you chat in class?”.

Add something funny about the reindeer:

  • “I hope you treat Rudolph like a VIP – give him a kiss from me! Does his nose really glow, or is it just an advertisement for LEDs?”.
  • “How are things at the North Pole? Are the reindeer on strike, demanding more carrots? And most importantly – how’s your sled, do you already have a turbo drive? I think such an innovation is useful, especially for people your age”.

When writing a letter, express yourself, make sure that the letter is creative and fun, but don’t upset anyone. An original text is sure to be of interest to Santa, Mrs Santa, the elves and even the reindeer. Have fun!
